We are starting to get warmer days here in Wisconsin and kids don’t have summer pajamas yet so I decided to spend my sewing time this morning working on those.
First I worked on adjusting a nightgown pattern I have so it is the right size for my daughter. It is a pattern that is from my grandma and it has her writing on some of the pattern pieces!
However, the pattern is written in Misses size so it is too big for my daughter. I took my her measurements and am also using a dress that fits her right now as a guide.
I laid tissue paper over the pattern pieces and then use the shape of the pattern and the measurements from my daughter to draw the correct size pattern piece. I will cut the pieces out of the fabric with a generous seam allowance so I can make adjustments when pinning the pieces together.

I cut three pieces this morning and have two more pieces to resize and cut out at another sewing time. Then I will move onto cutting out the fabric and sewing the nightgown together.
I have a pieces of light green seersucker fabric that I found at a quilt store rummage sale last year that I have been saving for this nightgown project.
After working on the nightgown for awhile I took a break from that project to turn a pair of my youngest son’s long sleeve pajamas into short sleeve ones. I decided to just turn the shirt into a short sleeve shirt for now and wait to turn the pants into shorts until summer weather is here to stay.

I am pretty sure this pair of pajamas won’t fit him any more in the fall so by turning them into summer pajamas we can get a few more months of use out of them! It didn’t take long to cut off part of the sleeve and hem the raw edge. The next time I do this kind of alteration I will use a longer stitch to try to avoid the edge stretching and puckering a little bit.
This evening I am going to machine quilt for awhile and tomorrow afternoon I will work more on the nightgown project! I will write updates and share photos as I am able to here.
